"Celebrating over 50 years of the Hare Krishna movement in Nairobi"

For over 50 years, the Sri Sri Radha Bankebihari Mandir has served as a spiritual oasis for thousands of visitors from all over the world. Whether you are looking for a peaceful space to reflect, an opportunity to learn more about spirituality and wisdom from the East, or just curious to try our world-famous vegetarian cuisine – a warm welcome awaits you.

Foundation of ISKCON

In 1965, at age 70, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada journeyed alone from India to America. In July 11, 1966, Srila Prabhupada founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in New York. Under his thorough guidance, this society expanded over a decade into a worldwide association of approximately 108 temples, ashrams, schools and institutions, and agricultural communities. However, Srila Prabhupada’s most important contribution is his books before he passed away in 1977.

Organization

Popularly known as the Hare Krishna Movement, (ISKCON) is a worldwide confederation of over 400 temples, 100 vegetarian restaurants and community projects.

History

ISKCON belongs to the Gaudiya-Vaishnava sampradaya scripturely based on the 5,000 year old Sanskrit text Bhagavad Gita, or "Song of God", tracing its lineage to Lord Caitanya

Philosophy

Krishna devotees teach that people are not material bodies, but are eternal spirit souls and that all beings are related through God, our Father.

Mission

This non-sectarian monotheistic movements mission is to advance the well-being of society by promoting Krishna Consciousness through its seven purposes.

Sacred Texts

Our philosophy is based on the ancient Vedic literatures. The Bhagavad-Gita, the 18-Volume Srimad Bhagavatam, and the 9-Volume Caitanya Caritamrita

Practices & Principles

By daily chanting and meditation, ISKCON members practice their faith by attending regular worship services, studying scriptures, sharing sanctified vegetarian meals and associating with fellow devotees.

Daily Darshan

Our founder Acharya

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada

The Importance of Prabhupada’s Books (Srila Prabhupada and his beloved books)

“Thank you for reading my books and appreciating them. Please continue to do so. That will help you advance nicely in spiritual life. By reading my books and chanting Hare Krishna, your life will become perfect.”
